Humanupload
Braintec's latest project is called Humanupload. A humanupload (occasionally referred to as humandownload) is the transfer of the human thought and memory from the scanned brain tissue to an automated facsimile. In this stage, it is difficult to know for certain if our first humanupload has worked successfully. Memory storage still remains something of a mystery, and there are unforeseen difficulties in re-introducing the whole humanupload to the mind of a test subject. But overall, there is no reason to doubt our success. Our technology is already having a significant impact on bio-medical study. Many fields, including drug discovery and toxicological research, will certainly benefit from the creation of Braintec's first humanupload.

Traditional methods in memory-science generally work on a "one memory in one experiment" basis, which means that the throughput is very limited and the "whole picture" of human thought is hard to obtain. With our first humanupload we monitor the whole human thought at once, so that researchers can have a better picture of the interactions among thousands of MEMES simultaneously.

We have developed a prototype of an innovative bi-directional electroencephalogram (brainwave) machine that enables a computer to read the human’s brainwaves and also to induce them. Our humanupload is stored on magnetic tape. If the original mind gets fatally clobbered, the information on the tape can be uploaded again, resulting in another you, minus the experience since the copy. With enough copies, you could go back to every stage in your life you prefer to be. It can be a comfort in danger to have a backup copy of your thoughts and memories made recently. Because of the divergence the copy contains not you as you are now, but you as you were at the moment of recording: a slightly different. But still, most of you would be saved in cases of trauma, mental illness, brain diseases or memory loss, and the misfortune would be nowhere near as great as without the backup. Conservation of this instantaneous exposure might come in hand for new kinds of therapy as well.

The BraintecGrid
Monitoring the whole human thought at once is an interesting but difficult task. There's so much data to analyze that it almost seems impossible. It would take a monstrous supercomputer to analyze the millions of MEMES that form a humanupload. We could never afford to build or buy a computer that size. To overcome this problem, we have build a BraintecGrid, a global grid that connects thousands of volunteers’ personal computers. These computers use only a fraction of their computing power. We use this wasted power for our valuable scientific and medical research without disturbing the usual computer use of the volunteers. Braintec hopes to convince you to allow us to borrow your computer when you aren't using it and to help us unravelling the mystery of human thought.

The Humanupload Program
If you decide to join our grid, you have to download a free software program called the Humanupload Program. This program captures the otherwise wasted processor cycles of your computer and applies them to analyze the first humanupload. It actually consists of two parts: an application and a screensaver. The application does all the work:  it downloads a work-unit through the Internet, analysis it, returns the results and gets another work-unit. The screensaver program runs when you haven't used your keyboard or mouse for a while. It displays color graphics showing the data analysis process. When you need your computer back, the Humanupload Program instantly and automatically gets out of the way and only continues it's analysis when you are finished with your work.

We need help!
Our analysing technique provides a medium for reading and identifying, equipment that isn't commercially available as a complete system. To develop such a device, more funding is necessary. We kindly ask interested financiers to contact us.
